I am a Healthcare IT entrepreneur with over 30 years experience. I am currently focusing my efforts on ways to identify, integrate and mine disparate data sets to help individuals improve their own health. In biology there is a term called “hybrid vigor” or “heterosis” which refers to an offspring’s superior qualities or vigor which result from crossbreeding genetically different plants or animals. Could it be that there might be an “Information Hybrid Vigor” or “Information Heterosis” realized by bringing together individual centric medical history, activity, and nutrition data to find successful patterns of behavior? Can we build an interpretative analysis engine that would recommend small behavior changes which would yield leveraged health benefits?
I have held senior level positions in Fortune 100 pharmaceutical and technology companies. As Cofounder and Chief Executive Officer, I led Qforma in its mission to raise the bar in analytics by providing healthcare organizations with advanced tools that identify useful patterns in complex data and deliver actionable information. Qforma was a “boot strapped” company that grew from a single employee to 50 employees between 2000 and 2013 with minimal investment from friends and family.
This mission began when we developed a unique approach to eliminating inefficiencies in traditional sales and marketing techniques. This approach combined advanced software learning technologies first developed for the Department of Defense at the Los Alamos National Laboratories with pharmaceutical data. The results identified key patterns in complex data flows that revealed better customer targets and optimal time frames in which to take action with such customers. Moreover, we identified the need and led the development of Qforma’s iQMap™. As Qforma’s largest and most differentiated solution with over 60 client installations iQMap™ brought together medical and pharmacy claims data sets in a novel way to identify and quantify physician peer-to-peer networks.
Prior to founding Qforma, I served as Vice President of Strategic Development for MEDai, Inc. (Medical Artificial Intelligence), a computer information services and software company utilizing computer aided artificial intelligence. At MEDai, we successfully expanded their business model from a healthcare information technology company that serviced strictly healthcare providers to a business-to-business data-mining firm. I led initiatives that identified new business applications for their core technology. This led to the profitable transfer of the company’s intellectual property beyond the healthcare market and into financial markets. We also created a successful stock prediction model for a risk neutral hedge portfolio.
I was fortunate enough to be one of three founding Directors of Greenstone Healthcare Solutions, a disease management subsidiary of The Upjohn Co. At Greenstone, we created and implemented innovative strategies for clinical practice optimization and data analysis service lines. I served as Chair of the Executive Advisory Board for a joint collaboration between Greenstone and Lovelace Health Systems in Albuquerque, NM. I have over 15 years of healthcare sales and marketing experience while at Pharmacia & Upjohn. During this tenure I developed a new consulting division that provided information systems strategy development for The Upjohn Company’s U.S. healthcare organizations.
I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University. I am very fortunate to be married to Laura Myers and I am lucky enough to have two amazing children, Seth and Emily.
